Below is some great information that I just received from our school nurse. We have had a lot students ill in our class in the last week, including myself. Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever. I have seen illnesses spread quickly even though we are doing all we can do here at school. I know that many parents are just as concerned as I have been in keeping all of our children healthy.

Know the Difference Between Cold and Swine Flu Symptoms
You are invited to Influenza Prevention for the whole family at QVE this Tuesday, October 7th in the school cafeteria, 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm
The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) strongly recommends
the flu vaccine in order to prevent death, severe illness, and school and work
absence. Children between 2 and 17 years old are twice as likely to get the flu as
adults. Therefore, it is very important to protect not only the staff in schools,
but also the students. Influenza vaccination in schools is becoming a public
health priority. The flu vaccine will be offered by the Texas Vaccine Institute.
2 choices for the Flu Vaccine:
- Flu shot: For people between 6 months to any age; the cost is $20.00 each.
- Flu Mist or inhaled Nasal Spray:
For people between 2 to 49 years old. It is more effective than the shot.
It involves no needle or pain, just inhalation. Those who take the mist have to
be healthy and without asthma or any chronic disease. It is only for women
who are not pregnant. The cost is $30.00 each.
Side effects are rare, brief, and mild. The vaccine is not recommended for people
who are allergic to egg products or who are ill with fever.
“Preventing a disease is much cheaper than curing it”
* The Texas Vaccine Institute will donate 8% of their profit from the vaccines to our QVE PTO!
